Water restriction and physiological traits in soybean genotypes contrasting for nitrogen fixation drought tolerance Scientia Agricola
Cerezini,Paula; Fagotti,Dáfila dos Santos Lima; Pípolo,Antonio Eduardo; Hungria,Mariangela; Nogueira,Marco Antonio.
ABSTRACT Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) is essential to the economic viability of the soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] crop in Brazil, but drought may impair the BNF processes. We evaluated physiological traits of nitrogen fixation drought-tolerant (NFDT) (R01-581F, R01-416F and R02-1325) and drought-susceptible (CD 215 and BRS 317) genotypes of soybean subjected to drought or regular water supply between 45 and 55 days after emergence, in an experiment under greenhouse conditions in pots containing non-sterile soil. R01-581F had more stable photosynthetic and transpiration rates, and higher intercellular CO2 levels under drought. Drought reduced the chlorophyll concentration in all genotypes, but with less intensity in R01-581F and R02-1325. The...

Water restriction in different phenological stages and increased temperature affect cowpea production Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Barros,Juliane Rafaele Alves; Guimarães,Miguel Julio Machado; Simões,Welson Lima; Melo,Natoniel Franklin de; Angelotti,Francislene.
ABSTRACT Water deficit and high temperatures are abiotic factors that most limit plant growth and development. However, its effects depend on crop development stage and on stress duration and intensity. Thus, the objective of was to evaluate the development of cowpea subjected to water restriction in different phenological stages and to increase in air temperature. The experiment was conducted with the cultivar ‘Carijó’, in growth chambers, in a 4 x 3 x 2 factorial arrangement, corresponding to levels of water availability (25, 50, 75, and 100%,), phenological stages (vegetative, flowering and pod filling) and temperature regimes (T°1: 20-26-33 °C e T°2: 24.8-30.8-37.8 °C), respectively. Reduction of water availability in the vegetative and flowering...

Water stress and temperature on germination and vigor of Handroanthus impetiginosus (Mart. ex DC) AGRIAMBI
Santos,Paulo C. S.; Benedito,Clarisse P.; Alves,Tatianne R. C.; Paiva,Emanoela P.; Sousa,Erivanessa C.; Freires,Afonso L. A..
ABSTRACT Water availability and temperature are among the main abiotic factors that influence seed germination and vigor, since they act directly on biochemical and physiological processes, which result in the production of the primary root. The objective of this study was to verify the effects of stress on germination and vigor of H. impetiginosus (‘ipê-roxo’) seeds under different temperatures and osmotic agents. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 6 x 2 factorial scheme (osmotic potentials x temperatures) with four replicates of 25 seeds for each osmotic agent. In order to simulate water stress, polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000) and mannitol solutions were used and distilled water was used as control. Osmotic potentials of 0, -0.2,...

Water stress on germination and vigor of ‘mofumbo’ (Combretum leprosum Mart.) seeds at different temperatures Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Leal,Caio César Pereira; Torres,Salvador Barros; Dantas,Nadjamara Bandeira de Lima; Aquino,Gutierres Silva Medeiros; Alves,Tatianne Raianne Costa.
ABSTRACT Combretum leprosum Mart., commonly known as ‘mofumbo’, is used for medicinal purposes, recovery of degraded areas and apiculture. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of water stress on the germination and vigor of C. leprosum seeds as function of different temperatures. To compose the treatments, the substrate used was paper roll moistened with polyethylene glycol solutions (PEG 6000), at the following levels of osmotic potential: 0.0; -0.1; -0.2; -0.2; -0.4; and -0.5 MPa, and placed in chamber at constant temperatures of 25, 30 and 35 and alternating temperature of 20-30 °C, forming a 6 x 4 factorial. The seeds were submitted to the following evaluations: germination percentage, germination speed index, root length, shoot...

Yield components and reproductive, physiological, and root traits used in early selection for nitrogen use efficiency in corn PAB
Morais,Pedro Patric Pinho; Sousa,Massaine Bandeira e; Galli,Giovanni; Andrade,Luciano Rogério Braatz e; Fritsche-Neto,Roberto; Oliveira,Aluízio Borém de.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to examine the possibility of using yield components and reproductive, physiological, and root traits in early selection for nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in corn. Sixty-four inbred lines were evaluated under two nitrogen fertilization levels: ideal and low. The evaluations were performed at three phenological stages: eight fully-expanded leaves, tasseling stage, and physiological maturity. It is possible to select superior lines for NUE, but the yield components did not show differential behavior under the different nitrogen levels evaluated. Root, reproductive, and physiological traits are not promising for early selection of corn lines with high NUE. Likewise, the eight-leaves and tasseling stages were not...
